Privacy

Sports Map Daily is a free daily game. This page explains what it stores and why, in plain language. Sport attracts many young players, so we keep data to a minimum and never show real names publicly.

What we store

  • A guest cookie. The first time you guess, we set a signed, random ID in a cookie called cmd_gid (one year). It lets us save your guesses, score and streak. It is essential for the game to work and holds no personal information.
  • Your guesses and results. The spot you tapped, the distance, your score and when you finished, linked to that random ID.
  • Preferences in your browser. Your choice of miles or kilometres, confirm mode and your cookie choice, stored on your device only.
  • If you sign in with Google, Apple or an email link: we keep an account ID and, if the provider verifies it, your email address (private, never shown to other players). You choose a nickname for the leaderboard; we never show your real name. Your guest history is moved into the account.

Analytics

Only if you press “Accept analytics” do we use PostHog to count things like rounds started and completed, so we can improve the questions. It does not use your guest ID, and we do not use it for advertising. If you decline, nothing is sent. You can change your mind any time with “Cookie settings” in the page footer.

Ads

There are no ads at the moment. If we add them later, they will only appear on results, leaderboard and information pages, never while a question is live, and personalised ads will use a consent tool that asks you first.

Who else handles your data

Our hosting, database and cache providers process game data on our behalf. Map images come from NASA, Esri and OpenFreeMap, so your browser requests them from those services and they can see your IP address, as with any website.

Your rights

If you have an account you can delete it yourself from the Account page, which removes your nickname, email, streak and every score. You can also ask to see or correct the data we hold about you. Email faizanst123@gmail.com. Clearing your browser cookies also removes your guest ID, after which we can no longer link the old results to you.
